I Stopped Asking Permission — For My Calendar and My Body

For ten years, every vacation started the same way: a request, a justification, an "is it okay if." This summer my family is going to South Lake Tahoe at the end of July, and for the first time, I didn't ask anyone. I told my husband to start packing.

THE TRIP NOBODY APPROVED

No PTO form. No manager. No counting how many days I'm "allowed" before I start to feel guilty about it. I spent years knocking on 47 doors a day for $0, cold calling, holding $3,000 in inventory I couldn't move — all so that someday, somebody might say yes to a few days off. I'm not that person anymore. The income doesn't ask permission to keep showing up, and neither do I.

THE MIRROR I USED TO AVOID

Here's the side of this I don't talk about as often: I used to walk into a fitting room and brace myself before I even looked up. I'd grab three sizes up "just in case." Six diets, three years, nothing moved — because the problem was never discipline. Down 3 pant sizes in 90 days later, my doctor stopped mid-appointment and asked what I'd changed. I didn't diet. I changed one thing every single morning, and the bloating, the inflammation, the flinching — all of it started to lift.

ONE CYCLE, TWO SYMPTOMS

Financial stress raises cortisol. Cortisol causes inflammation. Inflammation keeps the body stuck and the bank account exhausting to look at. I used to think the trip and the mirror were two separate problems I'd never have time to fix. They were always the same problem, wearing two different outfits.

BECOMING VS. WAITING

Waiting is asking permission — for your time, for your body, for your own life. Waiting is exhausting, and it doesn't actually move anything. Becoming is different. Becoming is building something once — an income system, a body system — and then living inside what you built instead of asking for it over and over.

I'm not the woman who used to ask permission to leave early on a Friday. I'm becoming the woman who books the trip and tries on the dress without bracing. Both built once. Both running now. 🤎

If you're still waiting on either side, DM me READY and tell me which one you need first.
