Starting Is Hard. Staying the Same Is Harder. Here's What I Did When I Finally Understood the Difference.
Starting Is Hard.
Staying the Same
Is Harder.
Most moms pick the wrong kind of hard without realizing there's a choice. Here's the difference — and what happened when I finally understood it.
Everything worth doing is hard. Starting a business is hard. Supporting your body the right way is hard. Showing up before anything is working is hard. Learning a new skill when your schedule is already full is hard.
Nobody is going to tell you it isn't.
But here's what nobody says out loud: staying the same is also hard. Waking up every morning and doing the dressing room negotiation is hard. Checking the account before you answer your kids is hard. Asking permission to attend your own family's milestones is hard. Starting over every Monday with a body that still doesn't respond is hard.
"The question was never whether it would be hard. The question was which kind of hard builds something and which kind just costs you."
The wrong kind of hard
For years I chose the hard that cost me. More hours at work to solve a money problem that needed a different solution. More restriction in my diet to solve an inflammation problem that restriction was making worse. More managing, more calculating, more of my presence rationed out based on someone else's schedule.
That hard didn't build anything. It just maintained the problem at a higher cost.
The right kind of hard
The hard that builds something looks different. Five minutes every morning when I didn't want to. Posting content when nobody was watching. Keeping going through the part where nothing had worked yet. Addressing the root instead of the symptom one more time.
That hard was uncomfortable for weeks. The other kind had been uncomfortable for years.
Down 3 pant sizes. Income that runs without permission. A calendar that belongs to me. A body I live in instead of manage around. All of it came from choosing the hard that built something instead of the hard that just kept the problem running.
You are already choosing a kind of hard. The only question is which one. 🤎
