7 TIPS TO SPRING CLEAN YOUR BEAUTY ROUTINE
These days I’ve been in the mood to Spring clean my entire home and that means my makeup stash as well. As your putting away those sweaters do yourself a favor and give your beauty routine a fresh makeover as well. While your making room for the Spring essentials like cut off shorts and beach day accessories be sure to take a moment to focus on giving your makeup a revival with fun pops of colors for Spring and skin care to reveal vibrant glowing skin.
1. Is it time to toss it? Check the expiration dates
I wish makeup and skin care products would last forever but girlfriend they don’t. You need to make sure you are replacing certain items every 3 months some as long as 2-3 years. For healthy glowing skin it’s best to get rid of anything that is expired you could be experiencing breakouts due to bacteria. And any cosmetics or skin care that is expired could be the cause of eye infections, lip sores, or skin breakouts. You definitely don’t want that! Be sure to swap out beauty tools as well like your beauty sponge.
2. Give your makeup brushes some attention
A general rule is to clean your makeup brushes at least weekly. I know this can be the last thing you want to spend your time doing but girl trust me it’s so worth it. Take a brush cleaner and give those cosmetic tools a little dip.
And baby girl, don’t forget to give your beauty tools like your cleanser brushes, tweezers, eyelash curlers, lash combs a little love and attention too. We tend to forget about these but the tools we use can also be breeding grounds for bacteria.
3. Organize the beautiful mess
If your anything like me if you don’t see it you don’t use it! Take a minute after cleaning out anything that looks like it’s been ran over, 3+ years old or you no longer use and toss those babies. Grab any old vases, cups, coffee mugs, and trays to use to organize your beauty products.
4. Add protection to your daily skin routine
You only have one skin for the rest of your life so protect it!!! Seriously, if you haven’t already been protecting your skin from the harmful rays which can cause premature aging like wrinkles, age spots, and discoloration. You can try this foundation which has a mechanical shield and this lightweight daytime moisturizer as well for the coverage you need.
5. Buff away the dry dull skin
Who’s ready to reveal that baby soft dewy skin again. I know the first few times I break out the shorts and pull the hair back that I’m mortified to show off my bare skin if I haven’t exfoliated. Exfoliating at least weekly (minimum) helps buff away the dry, dead dull skin to give new life to our skin. Grab yourself a good cleanser that exfoliates like this one which also tones and helps get rid of built up dirt. Prep your skin before using an exfoliating scrub so it can get deep and remove the dead skin.
6. Swap out your moisturizer
Go in for a lightweight moisturizer that also has coverage from the harmful rays. During the winter you may slather on the thick creamy moisturizers since our skin tends to be more on the dry side. A favorite product of mine during the warmer months is a color correcting tinted moisturizer because it gives me a sheer light weight coverage and the benefits of a moisturizer all in one. It’s a easy grab and go product!!!
7. Give your look a pop of color
As much as I love a good smokey eye we definitely need to put those away and replace it with splashes of fun summer colors. Pops of violets, dashes of pink, bold reds and corals, and hints of nudes. An easy way I love to do this is use a shadowsense to line the bottom of my lash line or use a fun eyeliner color on my top lash line.
And we can’t forget about all the glow. This highlight can be mixed in with your foundation, tinted moisturizer, daytime moisturizer, cream shadows and blushes to add a dewy glow. Even a high shine gloss or sparkly gloss can give your look all the color it needs.
